West Oxfordshire District Council is seeking an experienced Registered Building Inspector to join its Building Control team.
The role involves carrying out site inspections on domestic and commercial developments (non-HRB), ensuring buildings are safe, compliant, and well-constructed. You will inspect foundations, drainage, structure, and installations, respond to general enquiries, write technical reports, and work with customers to resolve compliance issues in line with Building Regulations and the Building Control Code of Conduct.
You will provide high-level technical expertise, manage complex cases, and undertake plan appraisals with minimal supervision. As a member of the team, you will contribute to service improvement, ensure accurate record-keeping and timely decision-making. The role requires strong judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a varied caseload while meeting statutory timescales.
The successful candidate will be a Registered Building Inspector (minimum Class 2A) with a strong commitment to ongoing CPD. You will join a dynamic and busy team and be supported in developing your skills, including the opportunity to progress to Class 2A–F Registered Building Inspector status. A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel are essential. You will be professional and customer-focused, with the confidence to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, and a clear commitment to public safety and high standards of service delivery.

What you will need
- The Surveyor will be a Registered Building Inspector minimum Class 2A wishing to progress to Class 2A-F
- A qualification in your area of expertise, equivalent to a degree
- Five years’ experience preferable
- GCSE Maths and English or equivalent to grade C/4 or higher
