We are seeking a practical, self-motivated Housing Property Maintenance Officer to support the upkeep, safety, and compliance of our Council’s temporary accommodation properties, with occasional work across the wider Council property portfolio.
The temporary accommodation sites are located in Witney, Chipping Norton, and North Leigh. The successful post holder will be provided with a company van, tools, and equipment.
This is a varied and hands-on role combining routine compliance checks, reactive maintenance, and planned works. You will travel between properties, working independently while remaining supported by the other members of the Assets team to ensure all properties are safe, functional, and well maintained.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong practical skills who enjoys problem-solving and working autonomously. You will not be expected to know everything, but you will need the ability to identify issues, take appropriate action, and escalate where necessary.
We are looking for a skilled, dependable individual who shows initiative, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Some Key Skills & Responsibilities…
• Carry out general maintenance tasks across properties, including basic carpentry, plumbing, and repairs
• Deliver both planned and reactive maintenance work within set timeframes
• Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with Health & Safety regulations
• Conduct compliance checks, including water hygiene monitoring and portable appliance testing (PAT)
• Maintain properties and surrounding areas, including cleanliness, grounds upkeep, and safety
• Use initiative to identify issues and report or escalate where necessary
• Prioritise workload effectively, responding to urgent maintenance needs
• Communicate professionally with tenants, residents, colleagues, and contractors
You will need
• A minimum of 5 qualifications equivalent to NVQ level 2 or GCSE at Grade C/4 or above, must include Maths and English
• Ability to build customer relationships
• Ability to remain calm and confident when dealing with challenging customers and environments
• Maintain accurate and up to date records
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
